People First. Business Always.
People First. Business Always.
For me, people-first leadership is not about putting people ahead of the business.
It is about understanding that great business results are achieved through people.
I want to work in organisations where people are open, supportive and genuinely interested in helping each other succeed.
You can usually feel this within days or weeks.
Do people share information because they want you to understand the business, do they help each other, do they genuinely welcome new colleagues, and do they come back later to see whether you understood something or whether you need more support?
These things reveal a lot about an organisation.
I have been fortunate enough to experience environments where, after only a few months, honest conversations with colleagues made it feel as though we had already been working together for ten or fifteen years.
That is the kind of environment I look for — and the kind of environment I try to create.
